Reassessment Brief 2 Assessment task details and instructions Measurement Assessment
Measurement assessment consists with 2 tasks.
Task 1- Taking of Quantities (60%) You are tasked to take-off quantities for the following items in the proposed three bedrooms bungalow as shown in the drawing DRW1, DRW2, DRW3 and DRW4.
Items to be measured:
• Above ground masonry work (External cavity wall and internal blockwork)
• Internal finishes (walls, floors and ceilings)
• Pitched roof (Roof structure and covering)
Take off quantities for the concrete framework (columns, slab, beams and upstand) using given drawing DRW 5.
Please make appropriate assumptions to any information is missing, specifications are inadequate or exact nature of construction is not clear from the drawings and specifications. Any assumptions made shall be entered on to a query Sheet for the attention of the Architect. The taking off shall be strictly in accordance with the NRM2. Show all your waste calculations and use diagrammes where appropriate to show the calculations in arriving at the dimension produced. This assignment is to be done individually.
Task 2- Carbon estimation (15%) A quantity surveying organisation, where you are employed as a quantity surveyor, regularly advices their clients on the economics of sustainability. Your manager approaches you with a drawing (Drawing Number: DRW 6) and design data for a single storey doctor’s surgery building. Manager asked you to calculate the embodied carbon of internal finishes of the initial design, so that alternative options for finishes can be appraised in order to reduce embodied carbon component of the building. You are tasked to estimate the embodied carbon of the internal finishes (Wall, Floor and Ceiling) by measuring all the relevant items from the given drawing and extracting relevant carbon data from the extracts of the UK Building Blackbook attached in the coursework. Clearly indicate any assumptions you made.
