Midterm Project Create a web site on a country of the world

1. Select a country 2. Develop a 2 or more-page web site using HTML and CSS on the country you selected in step 1 3. The web site must meet the following technical requirements: 

a. Contain at least two pages b. Use an external CSS style sheet containing custom CSS styles linked to every page on the 

web site c. Contain at least two images d. The web site must have a clear, consistent and a well-designed navigation bar that is 

located on each page of the web site. The user should be able to navigate to any page of the web site from any page in the website e. The web site should be usable on a 1920px x 1080px (full HD) display. f. The HTML and CSS code must be valid 

i. To validate your HTML code visit: 1. https://validator.w3.org/ ii. To validate your CSS code visit: 

1. https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ g. All HTML, CSS and images and related media files must have web safe filenames 

i. All filenames should be lowercased ii. All filename should contain only alpha-numeric characters and/or “_” or 

“-“ characters h. Web site files should be properly organized 

i. All image files inside an “images” folder ii. CSS files in a “styles” folder i. The home page of your web site should have the file name of “index.html 

4. When you have completed the above steps upload your site to your personal COMP1850 web 

space via FTP 

a. Remember to store all your related web files in a folder. You should upload the entire 

folder containing your web site project to your web space b. Test your web site on the remote server by navigating to your web site in a browser 

i. The URL of your project should be similar to: 

1. comp1850.michaelwhyte.ca/[your-first-part-of-your-my-bcit-email- 

address]/[the-folder-name-of-your-project]/ 5. Once you have completed step 4, create a plain text file or a PDF document or a Word 

document that contains a link to your web site project. Save this file and upload it to the dropbox for the Final Project located on D2L 6. In the comment section for the dropbox for the final project include a link to your final project 

Marking Criteria 

- All Technical Requirements Met: 02 marks 

o Followed all the instructions as set out in the instructions section of this document - HTML / CSS Code Quality: 03 marks 

o Is the code error free and valid? o Proper use of HTML tags o Proper use of “alt” text for images o Is the CSS code properly organized? - Design and Usability of the Website: 05 marks 

o Is the content properly aligned o Is the content properly spaced out o Are related items placed together in logical groups? o Is the text content easy to read? 

? Is the text nicely spaced out? 

? Does the text have good contrast against its background? 

? Are long passages of text broken up with headings? o Is the web site easy to use? o Does the web site use a clear and consistent navigation across all its pages?

Late Penalty 

- 1 – 7 days late 20% (2 marks) deduction - 8 or more days late 50% (5 marks) deduction
