Openstack build project

The HE Computing team need to set up a sandbox environment based around providing a cloud platform that can be used to show students how such setups work.  This build would set up a working Openstack cloud platform to showcase how cloud can facilitate the enterprise organisation to become cloud ready. This build can be implemented on whatever server platform the person undertaking the project chooses.  However, the Computing team want to keep costs to a minimum so would want an open source server operating system to form the basis of this build. This would provide students with a broader range of server installation and implementation skills and widen the scope of future Final Year Projects going forward, encouraging students to try other implementations than those offered by Microsoft.

Ubuntu server build project

The HE Computing team need to set up a sandbox environment based around Ubuntu.  This build would be set up with a view to providing a working example of an open source server that could be used by students when undertaking lab work or for demonstration in the class by the lecturer to facilitate teaching and learning.  With a working example to showcase, staff could introduce students to an open source server and storage solution options, and allow students to learn how to set up key components of this environment. This would provide students with a broader range of server installation and implementation skills and widen the scope of future Final Year Projects going forward, encouraging students to try other implementations than those offered by Microsoft.
